Apprenticeships and traineeships for the employer

Benefits of employing an apprentice or a trainee

For businesses, there are several benefits in employing an apprentice or trainee.

  • You offer your employees the opportunity to obtain a nationally-recognised qualification while they work in your business.
  • Your employees receive training that is tailored to meet your business requirements.
  • Training is delivered on-the-job, off-the-job, or in a combination of both.
  • A range of financial incentives is available for eligible employers.
  • You have the opportunity to multi-skill your workforce, improve productivity and workforce capability, and reduce the risks associated with dependency on key people.
  • There are fast-track options available, particularly for mature-aged learners.

How to enact an apprenticeship or traineeship

If you are the employer of a trainee or an apprentice, you need to have a training contract registered in the state where your workplace is located. An Australian Apprenticeship Centre can help you to register this agreement and can also provide information about the benefits and financial incentives that may be available to your business.

You can register a training contract at any time during the year. Then, contact Wodonga Institute to negotiate when and how the training will take place. Some apprenticeships and traineeships involving 'block' release for classroom activity at specific times of the year.

For information on the apprenticeships and traineeships that are available through Wodonga Institute of TAFE, please contact the Learner Services department. They can also refer you to an Australian Apprenticeship Centre.
