Full qualifications
Wodonga Institute of TAFE offers nationally accredited courses from Certificate I level to advanced diploma level in a variety of fields. Many of these courses lead you to further study, either to a higher TAFE qualification or to a university degree using formal pathways between TAFE and university.
In many cases, you are able to receive subject exemptions and formal recognition of the study that you have already completed at TAFE. This means that you do not have to repeat work you have already done. Speak to a Wodonga TAFE careers counselor or course advisor about developing your long-term pathway plan.
Short courses, licenses and skill sets
Specific short courses, licenses and/or units from a qualification can be undertaken to complement existing skills and experience, for specialisation to improve employment prospects, or for career advancement. Skill sets can be combined and customised to suit individual workplace situations and to provide employers with workforce development solutions to fill identified skills gaps.
For a more comprehensive list of the short courses we offer, please refer to our Short Course Guides which are issued once a month from February through to November each year.
Qualifications framework
The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is the system that identifies the various levels of educational qualifications in Australia. Qualifications at Wodonga TAFE include:
- Certificates I to IV - each of which generally takes up to the equivalent of one year of full-time study
- Diploma - which is generally the equivalent of two years full-time study
- Advanced Diploma - which is generally the equivalent of three years full-time study
- Associate Degree - which is generally equivalent to two years full-time study towards a bachelor's degree. Full credit may be given towards such a degree in a related area.
AQF qualifications are nationally recognised and progress through increasingly complex work and learning situations, preparing you for more responsibility in the workplace or further education. AQF qualifications require you to successfully complete a range of tasks to demonstrate your competence. The material studied can be related to the tasks you perform in your workplace, and the studies you do at one level may reduce the time you need to study to gain a qualification at a higher level.
Apprenticeships and traineeships are courses that have formal employment requirements and contracts. They involve the student in a combination of work and training to obtain the qualification.
The Wodonga TAFE Quality Management System is designed to comply with the requirements of the AQF outlined above and two other major quality standards:
- The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) - a set of quality standards designed specifically for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) such as Wodonga TAFE
- ISO 9001:2000 standards - the internationally proven and recognised quality system.
